Time & dates

Days Between Dates

Pick two dates to see the days between them, split into working days and weekend days.

The formula

days = end date − start date
working days = days excluding Saturdays and Sundays

Worked example

From Monday 3 August to Monday 10 August 2026

  • 7 days in total
  • 5 working days
  • 2 weekend days

Where this goes wrong

Being one day out, in either direction

From the 1st to the 8th is seven days if you are counting nights, eight if you are counting days that include both ends. Neither is wrong — but hire charges, notice periods and holiday bookings do not all use the same one, so decide which you need before you count.

Questions

Does the count include both the first and the last day?
No. The result is the number of days between the dates, so 3 August to 4 August is one day. If you are counting days of work or nights of hire, add one for an inclusive count.
Are public holidays excluded from working days?
No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are removed, because public holidays differ by country, state and year. Subtract the holidays that apply to you from the working-day figure.
Are leap years handled?
Yes. 2024 had a 29 February, so 1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025 is 366 days, while the same span a year later is 365.
